  • REASONS TO HOMESCHOOL

Filed at 8:00 pm under by dcobranchi

    Here’s a new one:

Shelley Lively said there are just as many reasons for a parent to decide to home-school as there are home-schooling parents. Some do it for religious reasons, some for political reasons. Some have children with special needs, and home-schooling provides that individual attention the children need. Some do it because they are dissatisfied with the quality of education available in public schools.

Keeping our private reasons private . . .priceless!
    And how about this part:

Hale said teachers unions would like to see other changes in the home-schooling requirements to make sure children are getting the education they need. . . .

But . . .”Colleges covet these kids,” Woodruff said. “These aren’t the kids who get in trouble and disrupt everything. Home-school kids know how to study. They know how to work on their own.”

Political reasons have always been my number one reason for homeschooling. All the other benefits are nice too though.

Eh, I do it because I’m too lazy to get up at Butt-Crack O’Dawn to put 4 cranky kids on the school bus. I would also be terribly lonely, spending all that time by myself, only to be greeted by even crankier children when they got home 8 whole hours later.

Here’s a thought: I homeschool because I like being around my kids.

[snorting] Seems the Univ of FL actually studied the relationship between school feeding and school testing. School food increases school test scores! My alma mater, I’m so proud . . .and gee, thanks to those Virginia school lunch ladies and moms and dads, for contributing to the advancement of mankind’s knowledge.

The Florida study compared nutritional content of school lunches from 23 randomly selected districts in Virginia.

    LOTD on reasons to homeschool?
“I chose to homeschool my kids for the sole purpose of keeping them healthy. They need life-long healthy habits more than they need anything the school has to offer.”
