YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE PSYCHOTIC TO LOVE BUSH

Filed at 9:23 pm under by dcobranchi

But it helps.

A collective “I told you so” will ripple through the world of Bush-bashers once news of Christopher Lohse’s study gets out.

Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.

Lohse says his study is no joke. The thesis draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse’s study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person’s psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

Daryl, are readers to assume that you concur with this “scientific study” of voters? Southpaw is disappointed in you, to say the least, for posting such gibberish without a Warning-Gibberish note attached. Next thing you may be asking people to heed the “scientific” findings in the Bell Curve.

This Democratic/Libertarian-Leaning Ed blog might want to post some of libertarian Thomas Szasz’s writings in order to keep the libertarian balance here. The therapeutic state, the same one that brings you public schools, with their Ritalin to counter modern ADD and ADHD epidemics, uses psychiatric labels to discredit politicians (and many others, such as antsy kids who don’t take well to classroom confinement)–a type of psychiatric McCarthyism that was also directed against Barry Goldwater.

BTW, I’ve never voted for a Bush.

I get it now. Kind of like “You don’t have to be Jewish to love Levy’s,” but with a survey of crazy people instead of rye bread.

The Onion has a funny article on soldiers with “pre-traumatic stress syndrome.” They also have a cartoon with Dick Cheney telling his motorcade to gun it across an open drawbridge. Gallows humor, HaHaHa.
