Sounds pretty laissez faire to me

Careful Duffy, I might confuse your politics with Daryl’s commenter John, who just called me “shrill” — not to mention damned lucky as a woman to be living in America under his patriarchal largess rather than under the Taliban — in another thread.
He told me to “get over myself” because “casual sexism” isn’t much of a complaint . . .
Dominionist patriarchs don’t get to grab up all the power and resources and education, loftily claim that’s the divine plan and natural law, and then rule the earth and all lesser beings under the laissez-faire libertarian banner as if they earned it fair and square. Didn’t you guys see Obama’s acceptance speech last night?

JJ, I’m not sure where you are coming from at all. I have a beef about thoughtless partisanship – no matter the political orientation of its origin. I comment critically at Daryll’s blog because, on occaision I think his analysis is overblown and his interpretation unfair.

In this case, for example, Daryll appears to have taken the position that someone whose political opinion is different from his is not fit to serve in the armed forces. The armed forces are supposed to be apoitical – but individual soldiers, sailors and airmen have as much right as anyone else to hold political views.

As for being ‘up against the wall…at the pleasure of a firing squad comprised of the Christian Right ‘ – get over yourself. I have no doubt you have suffered from social ostracism, perhaps casual sexism, but if you live in the US (and I assume from your invocation of that stereotype that you do) you live in a country with one of the best records of protection of minority rights in the world, where, until recently one of the frontrunners for the presidential race was a woman.

If you want to see patriarchal tyranny, may I suggest you take a look at some of the countries where your armed forces are deployed.

Currently you just sound shrill.

And don’t we all just need a big strong man to come along and tell us how we should sound?

Or not.

Maybe if hell freezes over and McCain is elected we can all learn how to be ladies (gun-toting ladies, but still…) from Gov. Palin.

Rush Limbaugh said today on radio that Palin would expose the reality that all feminism is really just appearance jeolousy, that all the less-attractive women were “feminists” because they needed some way to argue for bringing the beautiful and therefore most worthy women to their level, get some of the goodies for themselves. . .

OK, so I know Rush Limbaugh is really the son of Satan and all, but please tell me he DID NOT SAY THAT.

Otherwise, he officially needs to STFU. Like forever and ever.

And I will never take anyone who listens to him (without irony) seriously ever again, either.

I don’t care whether someone is a man or a woman, they don’t get to decide how I express my delight in being a woman and a human being, and my delight in men as the objects of my sexuality. And I totally approve of however anyone else expresses their non-coercive… oh, sexuality, personal choices, lifestyle, whatever, I’m already bored with this because everyone should just leave each other alone already. Feministas and male supremacists alike are missing the point.
