I grew up Catholic just outside of Greenville, SC. A few years ago my old parish, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, took a hard right turn and became one of the first churches in the country to try to turn the clock back to pre-Vatican II. Now, its sister parish a couple miles away has gone one step further:

A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him “constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil.”

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.

“Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president,” Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.

I am so glad I am a lapsed Catholic.

When these idiots say “pro-abortion” wtf are they thinking? Assuming there is any thought behind such an utterance, what is that thought?

What, in their alternative universe, do they imagine the incentive is to be pro-abortion? How would being pro-abortion help what larger cause?

I asked Favorite Daughter that, Nance, and she said yeah, it’s not like my girlfriends and I are gonna plan a fun weekend together to get pedicures and abortions . . .there ARE high school pregnancy pacts though, I think? Definitely not good.

I kept wondering that with Bristol Palin. Pro-dysfunction? Pro-drop-out and divorce? What IS it they’re actually “pro” for girls and young women? What’s their ideal and haven’t they noticed it isn’t even close?

    Pro-indentured servitude.
    Pro-subjugation
    Anti-life, anti-liberty, anti-pursuit of happiness. Thus anti-American!

I’ll bet those same parishioners and priest were *pro-preemptive war*.
War = Death, there is no way around it but they don’t want to stare facts in the face.
    Hypocrisy, hypocrisy…

Arianna Huffington said on Rachel Maddow last night, that Sarah Palim didn’t believe in anything except her “antediluvian” ideas. Maybe she meant anti-diluvian? 😉

Having way too much time on my hands lately I find myself revisiting a few of the blogs I read to see if there are new comments. Every time I come here to HERPES and scroll down a bit, the first thing I notice about this post is Greenville, SC, and the reason it stands out is that Gville is the home of everyone’s favorite Bob Jones University.

Did I ever tell you that my family boasts three different BJU grads? I went the last couple of years I was in high school for visits as they hosted christian school kids they hoped might eventually be students, and I also attended a basketball camp there once. Two of my brothers that graduated met their eventual wives at BJU as well, so I guess that makes the total of Hull family BJU grads five when you count in laws.

Yes, this is totally off topic, but it’s not entirely off topic considering the Greenville connection. And of course then I’m forced to remember whatever town is south of Greenville that has the water tower painted to look like a peach that actually ends up looking like a giant butt on a stick.

    That would be Gaffney’s Peachoid.

Somewhere in the archives here, there’s a photo.

During construction, before they had added the orange shading, leaf, or stem, it really looked like a huge pink butt. The people of Gaffney were very upset.
